The Alcorn Central High School (ACHS) Beta Club officers recently had the opportunity to attend the Regional Leadership Summit in Hot Springs, Arkansas. This summit provided a remarkable experience for the officers, allowing them to engage in leadership challenges and opportunities that will ultimately strengthen their ability to serve the ACHS Beta Club.
During the summit, the officers competed in three events and proudly qualified for nationals in two of them: "Lead Outside the Box" and "Project Proposal." Despite being a smaller group, their dedication and performance earned ACHS an **Outstanding Leadership Club** award from the Beta leadership representatives. This prestigious honor highlights the club’s ability to excel and lead by example, reinforcing the values of commitment and excellence in leadership.
The summit wasn’t just a valuable experience for the students. ACHS sponsors Mrs. Holt and Coach Mask also benefited from the event, expanding their own leadership skills and networks through sponsor training and networking sessions. These opportunities further prepared them to guide and support their Beta Club officers throughout the year.
While in Hot Springs, the students and sponsors immersed themselves in the local culture and history. Coach Mask led the students in exploring the rich historical significance of Hot Springs, particularly its role in organized crime in the early 20th century. A visit to the **Gangster Museum of America** brought this history to life, allowing students to gain a firsthand understanding of Hot Springs' colorful past.
In addition to the leadership training and competitions, Mrs. Holt arranged for the group to experience the natural beauty of Arkansas with an excavation tour at **Crater of Diamonds State Park**. Here, the officers learned about the geological history of the region, including the effects of volcanic activity, which left a lasting impression on the students.
The officers also took time to visit the renowned **Bathhouse Row** and see the natural mineral springs that make Hot Springs famous. These excursions offered a well-rounded experience, combining education with hands-on exploration of the local environment and history.
The ACHS Beta Club is more than just a student organization—it’s a platform for students to gain real-world experience through travel, competitions, and service while focusing on academics, arts, and leadership. With national qualifications and new leadership skills under their belts, the ACHS Beta Club officers are ready to continue making an impact at both local and national levels.
This trip will undoubtedly inspire and empower the ACHS Beta Club officers to lead their peers and future members toward continued success.
